In Like A Lion!

Good morning!  We had a busy schedule for Read Across America last week. We enjoyed reading and sharing many Dr. Seuss books.  Mrs. Olson, Wheelock School's principal, was our "mystery" community reader mid-week.  We were greeted by Cat In The Hat one day, and Memorial was awash in red and white on Friday!

We are busy here again in Room 10 this week as March continues to roll along and test us all with cold temperatures!  We learned a poem called In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb.  We all agree that March is definitely acting lion-like, though we remain hopeful that the month will show it's lamb-like potential very soon!

Monday began with much excitement as we discovered first thing in the morning that a little leprechaun had played a few tricks on us.  Your first grader may have already explained the mischief, and the treat that was left for us to find!

I enjoyed meeting with parents during conferences.  The children are working hard each day tackling reading, writing and math tasks with more and more independence.  Very soon, we will begin learning about money and telling time on analog and digital clocks.  When you have a few moments, work with your first grader to be able to identify the penny, nickel, dime and quarter, including knowing the value of each.  It can be a big learning curve for many!
More news soon, including our plans (hopes) for thinking about when we might get our garden up and running!  Think warm  -  tomorrow we welcome the first day of spring!
